After three decades at Retromobile, many things remain the same. It is still an unrivalled opportunity to connect with clients and friends and to showcase our 14-car collection. But this year, in our new sunlit hall, our stand felt brand new, bedecked with exceptional consignments set within our refreshed stand design.
On Tuesday night, one by one, the covers came off, unveiling months of dedication. First was the Porsche 956 B, one of only six “B” cars built and a two-time Le Mans top-six finisher, shown freshly refinished to 1984 Le Mans Kenwood Livery. Next came the social media favourite and our most modern consignment to date - the exceptionally cool Bugatti Chiron 110 Ans, an homage to 110 years of the French House’s history. The 2013 Aston Martin Vantage GTE followed, the lead AMR GTE from 2013-2015, fittingly wearing her 2015 Le Mans Art Car livery to match Retromobile’s Art Car theme. Then the 1961 Ferrari 250 GT Cabriolet by Pininfarina was unveiled, and was not long on the market, with a sale concluded by Thursday morning. In pride of place on the corner plinth sat the 1966 Ford GT40 MK III Prototype. The only LHD Prototype of Ford’s rarest supercar, this was Ford’s Le Mans winner, designed specifically for the road and marketed at only Ford’s most discerning customers. Another American Icon sat beside the GT40 - The Shelby 260 Cobra “T” Car. CSX. 2005 was the first ever 260 Cobra sold to the public, star of “The Killers (1964)” with Ronald Reagan, Lee Marvin and Angie Dickinson, and then trainer car to the stars at Shelby’s School of High Performance Driving. On our centre plinth, squarely in the limelight was the Brawn. Chassis 001/01 has an undeniable place in not just F1 history, but motorsport history as part of the underdog fairytale season that not even Hollywood could dream up. 001/01 tested with Button and Barrichello’s and was Barrichello’s steed for 10 races achieving four vital podium’s in Brawn’s fight for the title. Next was one of two original red D-types, sold new by Bernie Ecclestone to successful period racer Peter Blonde. On the last corner plinth was DBR9/03 - one of the five full works cars, a double Le Mans podium finisher and Petit Le Mans winner with 9 consecutive ALMS podiums in 2006.
On the upper area of the stand were five further treasures. The 1927 Mercedes-Benz 680S was first, a rare and original Sindelfingen Sports Tourer owned by famous playwright Philip Barry, cartoonist Charles Addams, and producer John Calley, restored by World Champion Phil Hill and treasured by three significant collections over the last 50 years. Next up was the eye-catching 500 Mondial, an exceptionally original example of Ferrari’s four-cylinder Sports racer, classiche certified and perfectly suited to prestigious tours and world-leading Concours events. Middle of our top tier was a familiar face, the 1931 Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 Zagato Spider 2111006. Ex-Works, Ex-Scuderia Ferrari, Nuvolari’s Coppa Ciano Winner, Coppa Messina winner, 1932 & 1934 Mille Miglia and 1932 Targa Florio entrant, retains original engine and period-fitted Zagato body as well as Jim Stokes engine and replica 1932 Mille Miglia-style body, this 8C ticks every single provenance box and leaves a prospective owner able to enjoy this glorious 8C as intended. Unveiled next, the 1952 Jaguar C-Type incited much intrigue, having emerged from a very private Swiss collection after 20 years. Supplied by Fiskens to the current owner in 2007 and still in really original condition, XKC 019 enjoyed an active privateer life with a 3rd place at the 1953 Spa Francorchamps 24 hours and plenty of club racing at Zandvoort and the Nurburgring. Last but certainly not least, the black Fiskens cover was peeled back to reveal CSX 2142. One of two Cobras that raced at Le Mans in 1963, ex-Ford France and 2013 Tour Auto winner, this truly special Cobra caught the eye of someone on our stand and will now join an esteemed racing stable.
We are extremely proud of the work behind our 2026 stand and sincerely thank our consignors for trusting us with their truly exceptional cars. We are equally grateful to our contractors and transport partners, whose expertise ensured the show ran seamlessly.
