1965 Porsche 911 2.0L SWB

The 911 is considered today as one of the most iconic sports cars ever made, and the most successful sports car ever made, with the one-millionth 911 rolling off the production line in 2017 and still proving to be Porsche’s flagship model today.  

The first 911s, or “901” as the initial cars were called, were delivered in 1964, fitted with Porsche’s all-new 1991cc flat-six engine producing 130hp, replacing the 356’s 4-cylinder VW-derived powertrain. Chassis 302864, the car presented here, was completed at Porsche’s Zuffenhausen factory on 11^th October 1965 and painted Gulf blue (code 6603).

In 2012, the car was purchased by renowned UK Porsche specialists Tuthill and was then sold to Anthony Galliers Pratt in 2015, who commissioned Tuthill to convert the car into an FIA-approved race machine. With the 911 ready, Galliers-Pratt took the car on a plethora of events, including the Modena Cento Ore rally and on various Masters historic racing events, as well as participating in a couple of 2.0L Cup events in 2019. The car was then purchased by the current owner in 2022, who continued to enjoy the car as a race-ready 911. Remaining with Tuthill, the car was prepared for Peter Auto’s 2.0L Cup racing series to the highest possible specification for the 2022, 2023 and 2024 seasons.

Driven by the owner and ace driver Johnny Mowlem, the pair managed one pole position in 2022 and an overall race win in 2023, both times at the Mugello round of the championship. In 2023, the car was also crowned Gentleman Class champion.

Chassis 302864 then participated in the all-1965 2.0L 911 race at the Goodwood Revival in 2023, with guest star driver Mark Webber at the wheel, where the car came 5^th overall. The owner also participated in a few additional 2.0L Cup and Motor Racing Legends events in 2024.

This car is fully eligible for all pre-66 historic racing events, including the 2.0L Cup, Pall Mall events with MRL, Spa 6-hours, Le Mans Classic, as well as many road events such as Tour Auto and Modena Cento Ore. One of Tuthill’s first SWB 911 projects, 302864 represents a great opportunity to acquire a front-running 2.0L Cup car and a fantastic classic 911 prepared to FIA specification.
