1966 Ferrari 275 Competizione

Following on from the legendary 250 series of Ferrari GT racers presented an almost impossible task for the Maranello engineers. Having scooped wins at Le Mans, Sebring and Daytona, the 275 GTB was primed to follow in the 250’s footsteps. A 1st in class and 3rd overall at the 1965 Le Mans inspired Maranello to build twelve 275 GTB Competiziones for the 1966 season. While outwardly similar to the road-going example, the Competizione was lightened and mechanically revised wherever possible by Mauro Forghieri, under whose guidance Ferrari won the driver’s F1 World Championship title four times.

This glorious 275 GTB/C is only the third of twelve Berlinetta Competizione examples to be produced at Maranello. A pure-blooded racing machine, it boasts a staggering period racing history including 10th place and 2nd in class at the legendary 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans where it was entered by Ecurie Francorchamps. It was alsoclass winner at the 1966 Mont Ventoux Hill Climb driven by Lucien Bianchi, led the 84 hour Marathon de la Route with Eric de Keyn and raced at 1967 1000kms of Montlhéry with Paddy McNally and Ed Nelson at the wheel.

09027 has been meticulously and sympathetically restored in recent years under fastidious ownership, with specialists sourced from across Europe to tend to the engine, transmission, body and paint respectively. It is presented in immaculate condition, with matching numbers and a full Ferrari Classiche certification. This 275 GTB/C has formed part of the most prestigious motor car collections in existence, and is eligible for the world’s greatest classic motoring events - a truly important car.
